HIRING A BIRTH DOULA IS PROVEN TO IMPROVE BIRTH OUTCOMES
A birth doula is someone who…
is trained to provide emotional, informational, physical, spiritual, mental, and other forms of support to birthing parents during pregnancy, birth, and immediate postpartum
understands the physiology of birth
is a continuous presence by the side of the laboring person throughout the labor
assists the birthing person and their partner in preparing for birth
is not a replacement for partners who are already supporting a birthing person— they can encourage partners to be more involved if they choose, help them to remember information, provide reassurance, walk through physiologic labor, and help explain interventions
their goal is to help you have a safe and fulfilling childbirth as you define it!
Support includes:
everything listed under “birth support”
25 daytime postpartum hours at 3 - 4 hours per session
continuous virtual support throughout birth and postpartum until 2 weeks after last postpartum shift
